Masks

Keeping Students, Teachers and Communities Healthy

Why do we make masks?

To be honest, the decision behind making masks came to me as a parent, not as a college counselor. I knew that at some point my daughter Ryan would be heading back to Penn State and needed a bunch of masks to get her through the week. And judging by her irregular laundry schedule, she needed a lot. So I thought I’d try my hand at sewing. I had a lot of fun experimenting with different styles and fabrics until I found the one I liked best. It’s called “The Best Fitting Face Mask” by Pretty Handy Girl. My friends and family loved it so I began making them whenever I had some downtime. My two other daughters, Zoe and Elle expressed an interest in sewing too and began making the masks to donate to homeless shelters in Westchester County and NYC. As of December, they have sewn and donated almost 300 masks to local organizations caring for the homeless population, and will continue to do so in the months ahead. These organizations include:

The Holy Trinity Soup Run, New Rochelle, NY

YMCA, Yonkers, NY

YWCA, Yonkers, NY

Grace’s Kitchen, White Plains, NY

Oasis Shelter, New Rochelle, NY

Since the beginning of the school year, the importance of proper face coverings has become even more apparent. Keeping our students and teachers healthy is a cornerstone in keeping our communities open. To place an order, go to “Order Mask“. For each mask sold, one will be donated to an organization caring for the homeless population. This page will be updated monthly with our progress.

Thanks and stay safe…we are all in this together!
